Message purposes. Yeah, of course with maintenance they have proven to be reliable, but after so many years all the rubber and plastic needs updating, amongst other things which will tend to fail. And fixing these little problems quickly becomes unexpected, expensive, tedious and time consuming, especially if you have to do the work yourself. But if you intend to transit to a new vehicle in a year as you stated, you should be good; I drove my 90' NA which started with 86K for over 2 1/2 years before encountering the slightest issue beyond oil changes. My 91TT which I started with around 113K, has not been a disaster, but hasn't been pleasant either. And from the shape of the car, it was given decent care. Keep these issues in consideration - you just never know...they are encroaching on the 20 year mark.
